She Loves You, YeYe!

Izzy is one of my favorite bloggers, and dare I say, the blogger who inspired me to start outfit posting in the first place. I recall discovering her vibrant and whimsical outfits back in 2007 (or maybe 2006?) when cruising a Flickr group called Wardrobe Remix. At the time, I had no idea she was Canadian like me; I was just smitten with her bright tights and vintage finds. My love for this lady's style is still growing...

I'm excited to share Izzy's lookbook for her shop, the YeYe Vintage's Summer 2013 collection, which is brimming with 1960's inspired babes! Featuring handmade earrings from reclaimed vintage materials and psychedelic prints, the mod vibe of this shoot makes me long for the days of Peggy Moffitt, Penelope Tree and Twiggy. Viva la mod girls!

Friday Five.

Happy International Women's Day! In honor of this day, I want to start a new feature here at Style Is Style. Okay, it's more or less just because the idea struck me this AM, and not just because of International Women's Day.

Even when I write/post less, I am consistently reading many, many blogs. So now, I want to start featuring posts that I really enjoyed from the week(s). I love the community aspects of blogging, and sharing some of my favorite bloggers feels like a natural way to discuss and appreciate the many wonderful women (and men) of the Web.

I read Celia's article about personal style for The Regis this week, and it deeply resonated with me. Style should always mean falling more in love with oneself.

Christina's blog is a wealth of unconventional style and witty commentary, and this post about Viva Vena's "Fashion Film" was a perfect example of why. Hilarious, on point, and highlighting a wonderful design house as well.

I'm lucky to be working in a creative environment with a lax dress code (read: no dress code!). But my job requires some means of function from my wardrobe, which means that these days I am always on the lookout for clothes that allow for ease and comfort, without sacrificing personal style and expression. I can see several pieces from Calivintage's feature on Dusen Dusen's Fall 2013 which could seamlessly make their way into my wardrobe.

This isn't a new post, but The Closet Feminist's post about why fashion bloggers are revolutionary in my opinion, is a must read.

This outfit post is further proof that Bianca is the master of boyish vintage charm. She makes a pant-hater consider wearing trousers every day.

BONUS: An article for those of us who have been feeling discouraged lately (I definitely have) : Refinery29 touches on how to make your dreams come true, without being corny or cheesy.

Hope you have a wonderful weekend, let me know what you guys think of this feature, and if you enjoy the articles!

Blushing Ambition.

I think some of you might be surprised to know that I absolutely adore Annabel's minimal, subdued style. I've been a fan of hers since her (long ago) Chictopia days, and I've enjoyed seeing the slow editing and refinement of her wardrobe. I'm always in awe of those who wear seemingly "plain" articles of clothing with aplomb, and she is no exception. I wish I could be an uncomplicated and effortless dresser! I'm also a big fan of all the foodie pictures that Annabel posts, her food pictures always make my mouth water. You can find this lovely miss at Blushing Ambition.

Obakki.

I went to my first "real" fashion event in Vancouver on Thursday. Thanks to the dashing Julian, Marisa and I had an invite to the Obakki SS 2011 Launch Party! With the promise of free cocktails and pretty clothes, I confirmed my attendance immediately. And so the three of us were off! We unintentionally coordinated with each other (a unspoken palette of black, white and red) which was pretty hilarious. We came, we sipped, we posed and met many new faces :) There were many deliciously well dressed guests, my favourite was Tenn's denim jacket and sick tie. We had a blast dancing to Fleetwood Mac and checking out the collection. A shout out to The Starving Stylist, Genetic Boy, To Vogue Or Bust, Tatiana, and Pop Couture, it was wonderful to meet all of you! I hope to attend more fun events like this one... More coverage of the event (including me looking sooo fierce, bahaha) at TLC.

My picks from Obakki SS11? The Hume Jacket and the Keala Blouse. The prints make me melt!

P.S. Please pray for Japan.

H&M lace blouse.
True Value Vintage bustier (only $5!!!).

Oh, Old Habits Die Hard.

Charles Anastase is definitely a perinennal favorite. I have plans to post all of my favourites from his AW2011 collection but this post is about a certain look. Yes, the collared shirt under a schoolgirl dress (using the term schoolgirl dress loosely) is pretty classic, but I have been inspired by several incarnations of it lately. Seems like that modish, 1960's feel is back in full swing, and I, for one, feel like wearing it every single day. Much like a uniform. The dress/blouse combos are endless...

All The Pretty Birds.

One of my favourite street style blogs, All The Pretty Birds features women
who embrace femininity without seeming childish or too frilly.
All her subjects share fearless, unique style, which is exactly what I'd love to have!

Blogger Friends!

Mitzicocoa and I had a playdate of sorts a couple of weeks ago.
We met in New York after we both won a chance to go to the Chictopia 10 contest!
We were roomates, and we connected pretty much instantly.
Our day consisted of thrifting (got a boater hat, and a yellow toggle coat!)
and eating some pho (my first time, sooooo good!)...
She's so lovely in person, I'm still so surprised that we connected so well, after "meeting" on the Internet!
The web is a funny, awesome thing.

The Uniform Project.

This is so great! I love the idea, and all the different outfits. Inspring, since I'm trying to shop my closet more and shop less. She's making me wish it was actually a little cooler so that I could utilize my arsenal of tights...

For more check it out here!
