Those Beams of Light, I Wish I Knew Them Still.

With dropping temperatures fast approaching the West Coast, I've been looking to my summer photos for a little escapism. Kate and I were lucky enough to score tickets to a Harbour Cruise on Canada Day; a friend who won them and couldn't attend herself graciously gifted them to us. It was spellbinding to watch sunset fall over Vancouver... To see the city from the water was a view that is incomparable, especially the fireworks. I didn't even know there were fireworks downtown on Canada Day (shows how much I get out...) Paired with drag queens and all the dancing we could handle, it was truly an evening to remember.

Meet Me In The Schoolyard, 'Bout Quarter Past Three.

Important life events: finally found a pair of heeled ankle boots (aka faux ACNE Pistols) that are comfortable. Thank you consignment gods. Also, my hair is long enough to do in a myriad of styles!

I've been feigning to do a garconne since...I'm not even sure when. Probably the first time I saw a photo of a girl with her hair done in that style, which may have been high school? This was one of my first attempts, and I love how it turned out. I feel super tough with my hair slicked back; pair that with a letterman jacket and I'm about ready for a schoolyard brawl... If I look tough it means I am tough, right?

Looking Back, It's Crystal Clear.

When I am in a style rut, or when I'm in a rush and have to look decent-ish, I default to a palette of black and white. It's the easiest to navigate when you have a wardrobe which is mostly a hodgepodge of eclectic colors and patterns.  Speaking of which I'm in the process of building the basics in my closet, so if you have any leads, help a girl out!

I'm wearing two pieces in this outfit that I snagged from my pal Adriana. Even though our styles differ immensely, there is always a magical overlap which results in each of us swapping articles of clothing, which is a very ideal situation!

Colour Komodo Dragon.

This outfit features two articles in my wardrobe I am consistantly obsessed with; an Urban Renewal trench that I tried on whim and purchased for $10 three and half years ago. I feel like Carmen San Diego and Inspector Gadget's ultra cool lovechild when I where it. The other piece is a Wilfred fedora that my friend Andy gave to me. It may be my most complimented chapeau...no one can resist a perfectly peaked crown!

Speaking of obsessions, I've been listening to a lot of music lately. It used to be a giant hobby of mine, but in recent years my passion for finding new music that resonates had faded. Perhaps it's because I've been feeling introspective and looking for inspiration; I've been re-inspired by new music. Can't get enough of Angel Haze's #30Gold, her lyricism and talents are proving to be boundless. Warning: she's not for the faint of heart.

What have you been up to lately?

IX Daily.

Nicola Storey recently interviewed and photographed yours truly for IX Daily, a online magazine which is based in Toronto, New York and Montreal. We had lunch at Finch's (the best sandwich I have ever had...seriously), discussing some of the more problematic areas of fashion. It was quite refreshing to converse about fashion's dark side, especially the rampant racism that still exists. It's a conversation that should happen more often.

You can check out the interview + more photos here, but in the meantime here a couple of shots from the shoot! Thanks for IX Daily and Nicola for featuring me.
