XL Model Search!

I'm not big on contests that involve being judged on your looks, but this one actually caught my attention. I think it's interesting that American Apparel is finally featuring items in XL. I don't know about you, but I've always found that their clothing runs quite small. I'm hopeful for some easier shopping...

If you would like to vote for me (the contest ends on my birthday, and what a wonderful present that would be!) you can do so here!

Lola Paige.

A couple of months ago, I stumbled upon an adorable line out of California called Lola Paige. They make beach inspired dresses and separates, but with a vintage inspired twist. I was pretty excited to wear this dress. I mean, how flippin' cute and easy is this piece? Equally exciting: I GOT KORK EASE. I've been lusting after these ever since CaliVintage got her first pair...but they were always a little out of my reach financially. Aritzia's end of summer sale meant that a little pavement-pounding and $50 later, Avas were finally mine! It's like walking on air, and I am so much taller.

In other news, I entered the American Apparel XL Model Search. I usually avoid contests like this, but I figured, why not? I'd really appreciate your votes if you feel so inclined. Here is my entry!

Lola Paige was kind enough to offer a promocode: Pacific317 gets you 20% off the Pacific Dress.

Thrifted mini hat, polka dot jean jacket.

That's The Only Time I Wish Would Come Back.

These are my new favorite tights.
They got a run the first time I worn them :(
That won't stop me from wearing them...I am a little heartbroken.
There are many new favorites in this one, actually.
The dress has gorgeous neckline details and a cutout (look at the link in the outfit description).
The wedges make me feel all cartoon-y and happy. Definitely a pick me up!

Icing flower pin. Thrifted blazer & belt.
H&M sheer oxford shirt. Staring At Stars dress.
American Apparel tights. Cooperative wedges.

That's What I'm Here For, A Good Time.

Adam and I went to American Apparel, and I reluctantly bought both the ruffled socks that I'd been eyeing for quite sometime...and their nail polish in Port. A yummy deep bordeaux, I have been wearing it whenever I can.

Also seen here: my new favourite shoes. A serious, serious steal at $25, these Aldo beauties came from the Aldo Outlet (if you live in Vancouver, it's on Granville, go!). They are my highest so far...but I think I might be addicted to dizzying heights now. It's a problem...and the only solution is more shoes, ha ha.

Thrifted blouse, belt. Bluenotes jacket.
Old Navy skirt. Target dotted tights. F21 socks.

In Anticipation.

I'm planning on hitting up the AA rummage sale not once but twice (friday and sunday) because I figure there will be many deals that can't be missed since I hardly ever buy regular priced items from American Apparel anyway.
Hopefully I'll score some items like these (from the caliselect blog) tomorrow.
Wish me luck!

California Select.

I have a love/hate relationship with American Apparel...
Most of the dislike stems from my frustration at random things being either overpriced, simple to make or sometimes, just ugly (fanny pack anyone?).
I do however love looking at the California Select ebay store, AA's own vintage shop.
They have several "California Select Originals" which have sparked ideas for future D.I.Y.s, like the "Hannah" oversized tank and the "Schoolgirl" cutout dress. After finding this fall lookbook for California Select, I'm thinking perhaps I will fit the bodysuit I won from American Apparel through Chictopia (thanks ChicRewards!), since there is a model is closer to my size than any other AA models thus far. One can only hope, right?

Ruffles.

The shopping ban is making me dig in my closet...
realizing the gems that have been hiding from me!
Take this skirt: I completely forgot about it!
After wearing it on to an ELK practice Thursday
I don't think that'll be happening again anytime soon.
I purchased the pink AA knee highs before the shopping ban...
and now I'll have to wait 3 more weeks until I can buy another pair!
I'd love more colors, they're super comfortable.

Thrifted skirt(altered dress), boots, scarf.
Gap jacket. Old Navy tank.
Target belt, AA socks.
AE necklace.

In My Abscence....

I've managed to acquire these!
I'm so in love.

Copycat.

So I am basically waiting for the CEO of AA to write me a "Cease and Desist" email since I
keep ripping them off with stuff I sew at home.
I would have never in a MILLION years thought to even try on the knit pencil skirt whilst window-shopping at AA BUT I managed to use some of my recently acquired creme jersey and make one using a skirt I already own as the basis. It turned out far more flattering (and oddly likeable) than I expected! I will definitely be making this in darker colors, with a few updates (a little shorter? hemmed? better waist?)...it's very exciting! This outfit probably could have used some heels, but I was running around doing random errands on Thursday.

Thrifted boots, socks, cardigan. Handmade skirt. AE tights and tee.

P.S. I think I need more heels. And this outfit subliminally stole from this one...

P.P.S. Tiger says hi.

The world's cutest tiny dress.

If you have an Ebay account, and happen to be an X-Small....
by all means BID ON THIS DRESS.
I'll live vicariously through you.

The lack of creativity is really just mind boggling.

On the same vein as Clotheshorse...kind of.

So being the fashion foward(ish) person that I am, of course I love the hipster chic of Urban Outfitters, and American Apparel(more on THEM later).

I think I own this in cream. Except I bought it for $5 at Value Village.

Lately I've been finding my self simultaniously inspired and pissed off by UO's website, especially the Urban Renewal section.

Now, call me crazy, but I think it's complete crap that this flannel shirt, an item which lurks in thrift stores EVERYWHERE (at least in North America) is FORTY EIGHT DOLLARS. I've bought mine for oh, 4, maybe 5 dollars AT MOST.

This just made me laugh.

Really, at $58, it's ACTUALLY A JOKE.
Anyone heard of Salvation Army, a white denim jacket, leftover from the 90s, and RIT dye?!?!?!

Retails AT $48, USD.
need I say more?

Now, American Apparel does this too, but in different ways. Although I am all for ethical workforces but the prices on some items are SO insane, considering a comparable item could be found for FAR less. The neon denim skirts, oversized tees and acid wash jeans are probably hidden somewhere in your local thrift store, all you have to do is look more than once! My favourite article of clothing, my black high waisted skirt, was a $2 thrift. I was surprised when I went to AA a couple months later and saw their version of my skirt, retailing at $36!

I'm sorry, I never do super long posts, but this has really been bothering me. Just so you know, I love both UO and AA, it's just frustrating sometimes to see bloggers and stylish people who don't realize there is SO MUCH more than just a couple of (if you think about it) mass produced hipster threads.
