In The Loup!

Oh hello! Today I'm excited to share some work I did over at Peau De Loup, a Vancouver based purveyour of menswear inspired button downs for women. Heaven knows that collared shirts are an essential in my closet, but I often have trouble finding ones that fit my proportions properly. It was much to my elation to find a company which has thoughtfully designed shirts that fit.  I've styled a couple pieces from of their newest collection, check out Inside the Loup for more!

Throwback Thursday: Fashion Narcissist + Style is Style

Two weeks ago I attended a lovely shopping event at the downtown Joe Fresh store with my pal, Grace. As a fellow blogger (and a lovely one at that), it was fun to spend a sunny evening on the town complete with obligatory outfit photos. We were too busy shopping at Joe Fresh to snap photos (I got this polish), but it was a super fun night. Here's to more sunny evenings spent in good company!

Those Beams of Light, I Wish I Knew Them Still.

With dropping temperatures fast approaching the West Coast, I've been looking to my summer photos for a little escapism. Kate and I were lucky enough to score tickets to a Harbour Cruise on Canada Day; a friend who won them and couldn't attend herself graciously gifted them to us. It was spellbinding to watch sunset fall over Vancouver... To see the city from the water was a view that is incomparable, especially the fireworks. I didn't even know there were fireworks downtown on Canada Day (shows how much I get out...) Paired with drag queens and all the dancing we could handle, it was truly an evening to remember.

IX Daily.

Nicola Storey recently interviewed and photographed yours truly for IX Daily, a online magazine which is based in Toronto, New York and Montreal. We had lunch at Finch's (the best sandwich I have ever had...seriously), discussing some of the more problematic areas of fashion. It was quite refreshing to converse about fashion's dark side, especially the rampant racism that still exists. It's a conversation that should happen more often.

You can check out the interview + more photos here, but in the meantime here a couple of shots from the shoot! Thanks for IX Daily and Nicola for featuring me.

Not All That Glitters Is Gold.

Last Thursday night I hopped on down to Gastown with Dana to check out one of my favorite local lines: Broken Promises by Karen La. Although I may be deeply biased since Karen is such a lovely lady on a personal level, there is no denying the wealth of talent that she possesses. The party took place at Cavalier, a new independent jeweler located in Gastown which prides itself as a one stop shop. It even houses a repair shop and the option for custom made pieces, if it tickles your fancy.

Broken Promises collaborated with Cavalier with a seven peice, limited run capsule collection. The "In Line" collection derived inspiration from the sharp, minimal construction of MACBA, Barcelona's Museum of Contemporary Art. Launched simultaneously with an Army of Rosokz capsule collection, the pair of jewelers created a collaborative piece; a stunning sterling silver cuff which is nothing short of a showstopper. The eye-catching and sharp lines of Broken Promises are perfectly paired with the incredible (and meticulous) engraving of Army of Rokosz. I'll admit I've got some serious lust for these pieces...now if only my bank account allowed for it!

The Locals: Community Thrift & Vintage.

This edition of The Locals features a place that is near and dear to me. After one my favorite local vintage shop was demolished (yay condos), I heard whisperings of a new vintage shoppe in Gastown. Community Thrift & Vintage is, hands down, my favourite place to shop in Vancouver. Inexpensive and expansive, the frock shoppe is an absolute dream! I've found many a silk blouse and vintage dress in it's walls, and for those of you who are less inclined to frills, there is the unisex/men's shoppe just down the block and around the corner. It's a great place to pick up a delectably worn vintage tee or softened denim jacket, for a song! Click through for more photos and an interview with Jenni Nelson, the owner!

These Streets.

I've been spending a lot of time in Gastown recently. The beautifully curated shops, delicious cafes, olden brick buildings; it is my sensory paradise here in the city.

My pal Emily R. took this set of photographs! It's lovely to have a great backdrop and a willing photographer who knows their way behind a lens. They ended up a little out of focus, but I liked the light that dusk casts in that part of town.

If I Make Myself Understood, Will You Love Me Like You Know You Should?

I had the pleasure of attending Jessie Ware's show when she stopped in Vancouver. What a show! MSMR (the openers) was much better than expected, bringing an exuberant joy to Commodore Ballroom before the main act had even began. Then came the woman of the hour. Jessie was simply effervescent, engaging with the crowd colloquially, with a sunny, self deprecating humor that was impossible to resist. The honeyed control of her range made for a wondrous show, and although largely electronic based, the emotive qualities of her songs translated phenomenally into a live show. I don't think I could have asked for more, except for a longer set!

Wasted Effort, Part II.

Hello again. First things first: I am extending my blog contest, since I have been absent recently (oh real life, you steal me away from online life!). Originally it was going to be until Monday, but now I will be keeping it open until Monday, June 10. All you have to do is leave a comment here! FREE LULA MAGAZINE. FREE CANDY. FREE SOX. Just saying.

Emily, Kate and I have had several lovely lady dates lately, and on this one we ventured down to Nouvelle Nouvelle to see the collection video for Wasted Effort. Who could argue with an evening filled with cheap drinks and familiar faces? Not to mention gorgeous images from the Wasted Effort lookbook, and being able to try on pieces (Lena necklace, I love you...). I am lusting after the whole Elytra collection!

PS. My outfit takes not-so-subtle inspiration from Nicolette, non?
