V is for...

First things first (for this first 2010 post): HAPPY NEW YEAR!
I hope everyone had a lovely New Year's, mine was excellent!

I don't usually read V Magazine, but I will most certainly be looking out for the "Size Issue" on newstands Jan. 14! From the looks of this video (which nearly made me cry with joy) and the below pictured editorial, this is a step forward in the push for "plus" size models being featured in high fashion, quality publications. For once, the move to have models outside of sample size range comes across as fresh instead of self-serving (i.e. rope the "normal girl" into buying a magazine under the premise that they now feature "girls like you"). I think one of the best parts is that both plus size and straight size models are featured, exemplifying that there is indeed a way in which both can exist and still be esthetically pleasing.
2010 feels like it will be quite the year, and this is a promising sign of things to come, at least I think.

I've always been a fan of fuller-figured models. There's a great site with many images of plus-size models here:

They're all gorgeous.

The site's forum also has thought-provoking discussions about body image and the media.

Body wise both models look great but the skinnier one looks better as far as facial expressions imo.

It also shows how ridiculously small the standard model is. and I think the clothes look better on the 'bigger' girl!

I adore Crystal Renn.
Her book "Hungry" is amazing. She's a real inspiration.

Obviously these outfits look better on Crystal Renn!!! There's another spread though that I hated - the models are gorgeous, but the styling etc. is bad. Not sure how I feel about the V issue, kind of seems like a gimmick.
